The Development Process

How did Mallard Pass Solar Farm receive planning consent?

Mallard Pass Solar Farm is classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), meaning it was required to obtain a Development Consent Order (DCO) under the Planning Act 2008, which is a form of planning permission.

The DCO application for Mallard Pass Solar Farm was awarded development consent on 12th July 2024 by the Secretary of State for the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). Following its approval, the project is now being delivered by experts in the renewable energy sector, with construction beginning in 2026.

What has happened since consent was awarded?

Whilst the project awaits a confirmed grid connection, test works have been undertaken, including archaeological surveys, test piling and ground investigations.

Meanwhile, technical plans have been refined within the scope of the approved DCO to better reflect best practice construction and delivery and the project team has met with local stakeholders to discuss design details and the community benefit fund.
